For many years the three Salzburg musicians Georg Winkler (clarinet), Hubert Kellerer (accordion) and Peter Aradi (double bass) with Marion Ellmer and Bernie Rothauer formed the Klezmer Connection. Now they perform in the trio and stay true to their musical passion with “Klezmer Pur”.
The principle of Klezmer music is: simple melodies are repeated and varied, and it is improvised with them. On a constant balancing act between joie de vivre, sadness and sensuality, virtuoso soundscapes are created. Beautiful to cry: the accordion cries, the clarinet sings, cheers and laughs, the bass provides ground grip and rhythm. An intimate dialogue between the instruments, which does not need words and yet is understood.
The “Klezmer Connection” stands for emotionally charged interpretations full of lyrical elegance and fiery virtuosity and goes its own, quite international ways – in 24 countries on 3 continents so far. What was true for the quintet also applies to the trio: “The band knew how to inspire the audience with their music … The Klezmer music was interpreted in a new, intriguing way. Whether it’s joyful wedding marches or deeply sad love songs, mixing the traditional with jazz and Latino simply has quality. Virtuosity and improvisation go hand in hand with the innovative intonation of the songs.” (pivot point culture)
