An old castle, whose silhouette majestically reflects in the lake – this is the stuff of fairytales! Behind the historic walls of Goldegg Castle, concerts, exhibitions, presentations, readings and theatre shows await throughout the year. The café, the painting academy and Pongau local history museum make the castle a popular centre of attraction too. At Goldegg’s Advent market visitors are immersed in an enchanting festive ambience every year. The early Gothic frescoes in the old Goldegg parish church building are also worth taking a look at, so too are the artistic carvings in Hirtenkapelle am Meislstein.
It is not known exactly when the imposing hillside castle above the northern shore of Lake Goldegg was first built in its original form; however, reconstruction began in 1323. Over the centuries, the castle belonged to various noble families and archbishops before it became the property of the municipality of Goldegg in 1973 and was reopened in 1981 as an important cultural institution.
Today, Schloss Goldegg houses a cultural and seminar centre. Concerts, exhibitions, cabaret, and film screenings are regularly held in its carefully restored rooms. The annual Goldegger Dialogues and Goldegger Autumn Talks have long become established fixtures in the broader cultural discourse programme.
For over 20 years, open discussions and mutual dialogues have been nurtured in Goldegg. The Goldegg Dialogues were founded in 1982 by
