Goldegg Castle, built in the 14th century, holds not only historical treasures but also tells the rich and eventful story of the region. The museum, currently undergoing renovations, focuses on the themes of ‘Flight – Persecution – Expulsion,’ powerfully conveyed through historical artifacts and modern media. Special emphasis is placed on the expulsion of Protestants in 1731/32 and the ‘Storming of Goldegg’ in July 1944, along with their far-reaching consequences.
Another historical gem is the nearby Reading Tower, home to the archive of the renowned ‘Goldegg Dialogues’ and a media library containing numerous film and audio recordings of significant historical events from the region.
Please note: Due to renovation work, the heritage museum will remain closed until early 2027. However, guided tours of the famous “Rittersaal” are still available by prior telephone appointment!
